Paperback books can be bound using a number of methods: You may hear the terms Perfect binding, PUR binding, EVA Binding and Notch Binding among others.

All these methods are similar, but have slight technical differences, our sales team will advise which is best for your project.

One common element among all of these is the cover, which is glued, not just to the spine, but to the first and last pages of the text, this is what gives the book its strength. Binding glue will not adhere to ink, so these glued areas must remain ink free.

When preparing artwork for your book, remember to allow for this “hinge” on the inside of your cover (which should be supplied as spreads) and the first and last pages.

See Print Ninja’s video which helps to explain how to set up your artwork.
